JUPAS: Joint University Programme Admission System

The JUPAS (Joint University Programme Admission System), Hong Kong is a common application window to help local students to apply for post secondary education, viz; College, Polytechnics and SSSDP Institutions etc. 

JUPAS Eligibility for Local Students

According to the Education Bureau (EDB), LOCAL STUDENTS, for the purpose of admission to post-secondary programmes, are defined as follows:
The student is a holder of:
  • LS1: HKID Card (Permanent)
  • LS2: Documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR showing right to land / right of abode in Hong Kong
  • LS3: One-way Permit for entry to Hong Kong
  • LS4: Full-time employment visa / work permit
  • LS5: Dependant visa / entry permit (for students who were below 18 years old) Note
  • Note Students holding dependant visa / entry permit who were below 18 years old when they were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.
  • LS6: Visa / Entry permit for Quality Migrant Admission Scheme
  • LS7: Visa / Entry permit for Capital Investment Entrant Scheme
  • LS8: Visa / Entry permit for Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents
  • LS9: Visa label for unconditional stay

JUPAS Eligibility for Non-Local Students

According to the EDB, NON-LOCAL STUDENTS, for the purpose of admission to post-secondary programmes, are defined as follows:
The student is a holder of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR:
  • NLS1: Student visa / entry permit
  • NLS2: Visa / Entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates
  • NLS3: Dependant visa / entry permit (for students who were 18 years old or above) Note
Note: Students holding dependant visa / entry permit who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.
Applicants who do not hold any of the documents in LS1 – LS9 above are defined as NON-LOCAL students.

Following programmes are offered through JUPAS Application Window

University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded Programmes

UGC-funded full-time bachelor's degree programmes offered by the following 8 UGC-funded institutions:
  • City University of Hong Kong (CityU)
  • Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)
  • Lingnan University (LingnanU)
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
  • The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)
  • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
  • The University of Hong Kong (HKU);
  • UGC-funded full-time associate degree programmes offered by CityU;
  • UGC-funded full-time higher diploma programme offered by EdUHK;
  • UGC-funded full-time higher diploma programmes offered by PolyU;

Self-financing Programmes

  • Self-financing full-time bachelor's degree programmes offered by The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK); and
Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP) Programmes
  • SSSDP full-time bachelor's degree programmes offered by the SSSDP institutions.
Part-time and self-financing programmes offered by the 8 UGC-funded institutions as listed in 1 above, and all other programmes not offered under JUPAS by OUHK and the SSSDP institutions as listed in 5 and 6 above, however, are not covered under the JUPAS scheme, and applicants should apply to the individual institutions directly.  The 9 JUPAS participating-institutions (viz. CityU, HKBU, LingnanU, CUHK, EdUHK, PolyU, HKUST, HKU and OUHK) and the SSSDP institutions concerned would be pleased to answer enquiries in respect of such programmes.

JUPAS Application Timeline

The JUPAS Application window generally opens from Mid September through Mid December. However, the candidates who missed to apply may chose to extra fees and write application till Mid May.
